Comics was founded in 1995 by Roland van Breeman and his wife, Michelle. It quickly became a local favourite attracting customers from all surrounding neighbourhoods, and building a reputation for quality and affordable food. With a wide range of meal options spanning from classic burgers and ribs to pizza’s, curries and salads, demand for Comics was always at a high. In 2013, the Glenashley branch was opened and became an instant hit, with better seating and more space it allowed Comics to establish itself as not just a takeaway, but a restaurant too.
Comics currently has one location, employing 11 full time staff and 11 casual staff. We aim to grow our footprint in the Durban North community and hope to open further branches and try different avenues in the years to come.
“I really love what I do, apart from the food, my favourite part is interacting with my customers and developing lasting relationships with them. I love seeing the children so happy running around the garden and our regular customers always have a story to tell. I always say I’m not just a waiter but a therapist, I love listening to my customers stories, happy or sad, and getting to know them on a personal level. There’s something really special about serving food to people and seeing them happy after eating, nothing beats it” – Matt
